André is a PhD candidate in economics in the School of Economic Sciences Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. His research concentration is in Macroeconomics, Quantitative Economics, and Applied Microeconomics. His research has focused on the impact of government policies on individual choice. In particular, he has conducted research on the welfare effects of central bank digital currencies, Mexican consumer’s willingness to pay for apples treated with irradiation, and the labor market effects of state versus federal changes in unemployment insurance. His career goal is to work in optimizing macroeconomic policy designs that maximize microeconomic welfare outcomes in a central bank, multilateral development agency or academia. He has nearly 20 years of experience in economic policy design in government, most recently was the chief economic and financial adviser to the Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, the central bank of that country.
